The Literacy Through Sports Foundation was originally started to assist student-athletes male and female in low-income areas, with improving their reading and writing skills. There were a large number of athletes who excelled in athletics but not academics. Our goal was to assist these student-athletes by emphasizing the major role that reading and writing plays in everyday life; thus the name, The Literacy Through Sports Foundation. After working with many students at various schools, we noticed that student-athletes were not the only group of students that needed assistance. So our focus has shifted to all students; male or female, athlete or non-athlete. Although our focus has shifted, the objective remains the same. We are advocates for reading and literacy and we strongly encourage our youth to strive for excellence. We strongly believe in our motto, "Today's Readers are Tomorrow's Leaders"
